Social Media

Do you remember MySpace? I remember it. It was the first social media kind of thing I signed up for. I don’t think I ever really mastered MySpace. I think I still have the account, but I’m not really sure.

Facebook came along and ten years ago I signed up for Facebook and left MySpace behind. I loved Facebook. A little while after I joined I started friending up old high school pals I never thought I would see again. It opened up a whole new/old world for me. One day I was on a friend’s page and I saw a comment on a post there from this guy I had a crush on back in the early 1980s. I friended him. We got married. True story.

Twitter never really made all that much sense to me – 140 characters? All these hashtag things! I’m not there much but I do post occasionally. If you’re there too, I’m tracy_petry and I’d love to connect. Drop me a tweet, or… whatever…

Tumblr – they kind of arrived late on the scene. I’m not sure what they’re all about, but I’m there, too. I’m there as plain old tracypetry.

Now, is a pretty cool site. There’s a lot more freedom of speech and expression there. Check it out, my husband (@mrnobody) hangs out there and he’s pretty entertaining. I’m there (@mymutt) and I’ve found some fascinating characters there.

It’s like the cereal aisle in the grocery store – there used to be Corn Flakes and Raisin Bran and Grapenuts. Now there’s a whole aisle full of I don’t even know what.

Social Media = Cereal Aisle.

It must be time for me to go to bed.
